Type Locality and Naming

The type section is located at Hongshanzui on the Sino-Mongolia border, the north slope of the Altay Mts. in Xinjiang. It was named by Liao Zhuoting et al. in 1990.


Lithology and Thickness

Sandstone and Volcanics. Dominated by phyllite to muddy slate and metamorphosed volcanic rock, being continental clastic rock deposits. In the type section, only the lower and middle parts are seen, while the upper part lies on the side of Mongolia, which was not surveyed. Exposed thickness >490 m.

Lower contact

Conformable contact with the underlying Hongshanzui Fm

Regional extent

Distributed in the area east of the Kalaerqisi River, Altay, and mainly seen at Kuermutu, Zhengge River, Kumasu, etc. on the Sino-Mongolia border.

Fossils

The muddy slate in the lower part contains fossil plants. Containing important elements of the Angara flora, such as Paragondwanidium aff. sibiricum, Rufloria sp., etc.
